Agilemedia is a BT owned venture providing services to the Participation Media industry. As such, each individual understands that they are here to do a role for the lifetime of the venture and the traditional progressions of grade and position are unlikely to be available during that time.
It is therefore particularly important for us to find other ways to motivate and develop the individuals within their roles, which is why just over a year ago we asked Sandra to work with us on a consultancy basis to offer individual coaching to any that wanted it within the team.
Although purely voluntary, all have met Sandra at least once and a great proportion of them still see her on a regular basis.
For my part, the benefit is two-fold - Firstly I get somewhere to vent and explore my personal feelings surrounding specific issues. Sandra is able to use her skills as a coach and her understanding of the team as a whole to help me think around the whole issue, seeing it from all sides, enabling me to make better decisions on these key areas.
Secondly, I am able to put longer term development strategies into place to improve my skills in specific areas.
Both are extremely effective and have helped me to be more productive and more focused as a result.
Within the wider team, I have seen marked improvements in specific relationships, particularly where the quality of communication had been an issue. Over time, the people involved learned how to tackle specific issues in a more sensitive way that lead to a greater degree of communications and therefore trust.
Considering the high profile nature of our work, the emphasis on success within Ventures generally and the resulting stress that frequently accompanies such an environment, there is an extraordinarily low level of confrontation within the team and I feel Sandra's help over the last year is a key factor in this.
As a result, the team is more focused, better integrated and better able to handle the pressure of delivering success in a highly ambitious environment.
